Reformer Pilates with a Physiotherapist: Why It Makes a Difference
A physiotherapist notices details an ordinary pilates instructor might miss. We explain what Reformer Pilates is, how it differs from mat pilates, and why doing it with a physiotherapist is safer and more effective.
One Wrong Move, A Month of Back Pain
You want to start pilates. There are YouTube videos, studios in your neighborhood, mat pilates classes. But something stops you: "What if I do it wrong?"
This concern is valid. Because pilates, when done right, works miracles — but when done wrong, causes injury. Only one person can tell the difference: a physiotherapist.
What Is Reformer Pilates?
The Reformer is a specialized pilates apparatus: a bed you lie on, a platform you push with your feet, ropes you pull with your hands, and springs that adjust resistance.
It's based on the same principles as mat pilates: core strength, proper breathing, controlled movement. But there's a key difference: the machine assists you.
- Keeps you in the correct position
- Adjusts resistance to your body
- Goes easy on your joints
- Allows for much more variety (500+ exercises)
Mat or Reformer Pilates?
Both are good but different:
Mat Pilates: Body weight only, can be done at home, cheaper, may feel insufficient for beginners.
Reformer Pilates: Uses machine assistance, requires studio, faster results, lower injury risk, more effective for posture correction.
If you have back pain, want post-pregnancy recovery, or suffer from office-related issues, reformer is recommended.
Pilates with a Physiotherapist: The Difference
Most instructors show you the movement and you repeat it. A physiotherapist looks differently and sees:
- Your right shoulder is 1 cm higher than your left
- You lean to your right foot when walking
- Your knee pain stems from weak hip muscles
- You're not using your chest when breathing
A physiotherapist has trained eyes — four years of anatomy, hospital internships.
That's why Reformer Pilates at Samimi Sports Club is led by Physiotherapist Beyza Erdaş.
Who Is Beyza?
Beyza Erdaş graduated from Dokuz Eylül University, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation in 2024. During university: internship at Dr. Savaş Kudaş Sports Medicine Clinic, manual therapy and pilates at G Therapy Ankara, orthopedic rehabilitation at Bilkent City Hospital.
After graduating, she joined G Therapy Ankara, and since July 2025 she has served as manager there. She holds certifications in manual therapy, kinesio taping, dry needling.
So Beyza doesn't just teach pilates. She reads your body through a physiotherapist's eyes.
